Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin “shells” added to the front of teeth to remedy misalignment, discoloration, chipped teeth and/or crooked teeth. Porcelain is the material typically used because it is a durable, thin material that easily matches the coloring of natural teeth. While veneers fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry because they help makeover beautiful smiles, they also boast protective qualities which could help eliminate the need for more extensive treatment. Another benefit of porcelain veneers is the need for little-to-no removal of tooth structure, particularly compared to crowns.

Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. One reason many people choose our office for their complete dentistry needs is because there is no need to seek out a specialist for cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Gary S Barker is highly trained with many years of experience in cosmetic dentistry. Our office offers high-quality porcelain veneers designed individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient’s smile which deliver beautiful, natural-looking results.

Once it has been determined if you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, the process is quite simple. It typically requires two dental appointments before you have the final veneers in place. Similar to a crown, the first appointment is for prepping the tooth (or teeth) and taking impressions (or molds). Not similar to crowns, only minimal trimming of the tooth (or teeth) may be necessary and sometimes no enamel will need to be removed at all. Slight trimming of the tooth (or teeth) may be required to remove old fillings to guarantee the porcelain adheres properly to your tooth or simply to accommodate the fit of the veneer. If needed, our dentist will provide a local anesthetic while preparing the tooth (or teeth) for veneers so you can insure a pain-free visit. You will leave the first visit with temporary veneers in place and the impressions taken will be sent to the lab so they can begin making the permanent veneer(s).

At the second and final appointment, your custom veneer(s) will be ready! Local anesthetic is usually not needed for this visit. The temporary veneer(s) will be removed and the final veneer(s) will be placed with permanent dental cement. Any minor adjustments to the veneer(s) can be made immediately by Dr. Barker and will be done to insure you are walking away you’re your best, most-natural looking smile.
